22/12/2014: Now online - Presentations, photos and videos from our Workshop on the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) initiative!

On the 17th October we held a workshop in Bilbao, Spain, dedicated to investigating how the Covenant of Mayors can support regional and local public authorities with energy planning in their regions. Partners of the COOPENERGY project, representing several regions across Europe, shared their experiences of using the CoM as regional public authorities and as energy agencies. Current regional coordinators also shared their experiences of promoting the CoM in their regions, followed by a discussion amongst all stakeholders on how the CoM can support regional energy work.

We held a Thematic Workshop on 'Information systems for sustainable energy and transport’ to share experiences of the planning, modelling and monitoring tools that can be used by public authorities to support progress with their sustainable initiatives.

Good Practice of the Week: technical assistance on SEAPs in the Sardegna Region, Italy

Read our case study of the week to find out how 21 Pioneer Communities were given technical and financial assistance with their SEAPs, as part of the Smart City – “A” project, led by the Sardegna Region in Italy.

The Region’s assistance also covered the provision of data on municipal energy consumption, training of municipality technicians, the promotion of access to national and European funding, and the need to plan sustainable investments.

Good Practice of the Week: promoting biogas through the Southeast Network, Sweden

Read our case study of the week to find out more about the regional multi-level governance 'Biogas Southeast Network'. The Network, coordinated by the Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden and involving the three counties of Kalmar, Kronoberg and Blekinge, was established to improve the uptake of biogas in south east Sweden.

Through the network, three biogas production plants have been established and three regional strategies have been produced.
